Welcome to the Balich Baby Blog! (Try saying Balich Baby Blog 5 times fast) So as Mike and I embark on our adventure into parenthood I thought I would create a blog. I am terrible at making scrapbooks and other memory type books (see the not one but 2 blank wedding albums). I might actually keep up an online archive of our story. So to start with background on the two of us to refresh your memory and so baby knows more about Mom and Dad.
Mike and I met in 2002 after he moved to Evansville, IN to begin his career as a Mechanical Engineer at Whirlpool. I was still in college earning my teaching degree at the University of Evansville. We met at Penny Lane coffeehouse in downtown Evansville. Although Mike clearly remembers meeting me for the first time, I do not remember that first meeting. We began our friendship with Mike attending my weekly D&D (yes, I was a total geek at one time) sessions to "hang out". Our friendship slowly grew over the months with Mike tagging along and eventually joining the game and watching me do homework at my house. Then one day I decided that this really sweet guy was NEVER GOING TO ASK ME OUT! So, I made the first move and asked him out. We went to dinner and a movie the classic first date. Not long after that Mike left to go on a week long trip to Germany with his dad and brother. The longest week of my life! So in order not to bore the baby and everyone I will fast forward a little. I traveled to Harlaxton College in England in January of 2004. Mike and I prepared ourselves for a long 4 month separation. It would be hard, but we both knew it would go by quickly. Mike came to visit 2 times, once in February and once in April. The first visit was spent in London seeing the sights and enjoying being together again. The second visit was planned and when Mike arrived we traveled to Brighton, England (the gay capital of England!). The first morning in Brighton, we planned on doing a double-decker bus tour of the city. Having just missed a tour, we decided to wait about 30 minutes for the next. We walked along the pier and stopped at this large copper donut. Now, Mike will claim until the end of time that I stuck my hand in his pocket and felt the ring in the box. I will insist until the end of time that it never happened. So Mike proposed and I said yes. Fast forward 2 years later. Mike and I purchased our first home in 2005 and got married on June 24, 2006. It was a wonderful ceremony and we spent a wonderful week in Maui.
So, here we are just shy of 4 years later. Mike is now working at Berry Plastics and getting ready to start his MBA in the fall. I am teaching Special Education at Dexter Elementary. It has been a great almost 4 years with just the two of us (plus 2 dogs and one cat). Last year we decided that we were ready to start expanding our family. So the journey began...
I enjoyed reading your history together. I'm sure the baby will appreciate it too, someday.(C:
